Found: Long Neck Ties

December 5th, 2013

The typical neck tie is not long enough for tall men. Finding long ties is one of the biggest challenges when outfitting tall men for work. The neck tie which evokes sophistication and professionalism falls short of such an image because its length is too short.  A normal tie rests on the middle of the waist line for an average person, but on a tall guy, that normal tie ends up 4 or 5 inches above the waist line. A short tie reinforces the tall awkward  image.

Many Long & Tall men are creative with how to compensate for these tie short comings. They either tie a half Windsor knot instead of a full Windsor knot to add two plus inches of tie length or they tie the knot higher up in order to extend the tie length. The problem with the latter is the back of the tie is too short to be placed in the back loop so it dangles freely and exposes the wearer’s dark secret: he is wearing clothes too small for him.

But there is good news, we have discovered a few long tie brands & retailers (listed below in no specific order) that will solve this problem!  All of these ties go well with a dress shirt and TEAL Premium Chinos.

Warm Regards,

Middle East, Africa and Antarctica

These three destinations are not family friendly (unless your kids have already grown up!) and there is a level of high risk. However, for the adventurous adult, the best skiing can be found in Antarctica. Best way to arrive there is to charter a yacht to Antarctica and back for an 11-13 day excursion. Trip will include camping, back country skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking and climbing. Prices range from $4,995 – $27,100. Looks amazing!

Pant-Lightenment: For the Long and Tall, not Big and Tall

November 14th, 2013

Men over 6’3 in America equate to 5% of the entire population or 7.7 million men. Big and Tall stores primarily focus on the 36 million male obese market and include the tall niche market to increase their overall total available market. The challenge is that the long and tall man cannot find adequate clothes that fit for their body type, because the Big and Tall stores focus on brands for the bigger man not the longer man.

TEAL Apparel is focused exclusively on designing and manufacturing clothes for the Long & Tall man, because it impacts us personally. Ed and his family are all over 6’3 and are long not big. To say that it’s difficult to find clothes to cover let alone fit us is an understatement. And after talking with other families dealing with the same issue, I realized that there is a large niche market that is underserved. I leveraged my past experience in the retail and finance industries to build a brand that provides tall solutions one garment at a time in order to elevate a tall man’s lifestyle and confidence.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at or comment on our Facebook and/or Twitter pages. I am excited to make a positive impact for all tall males and value your support!

Warm Regards,

Health and Wellness – Dry Socket: Tall man’s big pain in the mouth

November 7th, 2013

At the age of 35 my husband, Ed, recently had all four of his wisdom teeth pulled. Once the teeth are removed the body is smart enough to fill in the holes as to prevent infection. However the recovery and pain can be big for a long and tall guy. This recovery condition is called Dry Socket and defined as extreme pain that occurs after a permanent adult tooth is extracted. Sadly, Ed was impacted by this complication and felt like this was an important issue to highlight for would-be patients who may have to extract a tooth.

Beware! If you are long and tall the risks for dry-socket are higher because it takes the body longer to heal and for the bone to close the holes where your tooth once was. The pain is caused by the exposure of the underlying bone and nerves.

So how do you fix the problem?

The way to beat dry socket is to go to your oral surgeon and they will fill the empty tooth socket with a substance in order to prevent the exposed nerve from being contacted. Pain medication and a bottle of Jack Daniels will not be enough.  Your best bet is the oral surgeon whose treatments can reduce the pain and facilitate healing. So, long and tall friends, be aware of potential big pain and know that there are methods to help the healing.
