Health and Wellness: Great Nutrition For A Long Body

June 6th, 2013

My husband has had energy deficiencies at work and at home when he eats normal proportions of food and drink. It got me thinking that he under nourished so we decided to visit a Nutritionist to help understand the problem.  What we found out was shocking. Long and Tall guys need to consume more food and drink than the average person to sustain a normal level of energy throughout the day. Really? Eat and Drink more? Yep. This is based on height and weight.  IF you are larger than the average man, then you have to compensate. Much like bending lower to get into doorways or scrunching into chairs just to fit in, you should adjust your diet as well. Hope these tips help improve your energy.

Warm Regards,

The average person needs to consume about 2000 calories a day (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner with some snacks in between), but for a man taller than the average height of 5 feet 9 inches you will need to consume 2500 calories if over 6 feet and over 3000 calories if over 7 feet.  Also, you need to drink more than the 8 cups of water per day. You must drink 12.5 glasses (8 oz a glass) or 56% more water than the average guy. The saying Go big or Go home can be now be interpreted to mean, Eat and Drink Big or fall down.

So to help you on your daily eating and drinking consumption, I have written a nutrition guideline for my long and tall friends to review:

  • 6:30am Breakfast (500 calories)
1 cup of dry oats + water + greek yogurt + banana
  • 9:30am Snack (150 calories)
    fruit or snack bar
  • 12pm Lunch (800 calories)
tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread + fruit + chips+ cheese + salad
  • 3pm Snack (150 calories)
fruit or yogurt or snack bar
  • 5pm Snack (150 calories)
fruit or nuts of snack bar
  • 7pm Dinner (800 calories)
whole wheat spaghetti, turkey meatballs with tomato sauce + steamed vegetables + fruit + chocolate

Important: Avoid not eating every 4 hours
